Seattle Public 学校 will work diligently to accomplish the goals of our strategic plan to ensure that SPS students receive a high-quality education in a safe, 温暖的, and welcoming learning environment. To achieve this, the district has established goals and guardrails which are aligned with Seattle Excellence, the district strategic plan.

目标 are what our students will accomplish, what we want our students to know, and what they will be able to do.

护栏 are how we will ensure a thriving learning environment at school so our students can accomplish these goals.

The 目标 adopted by the SPS School Board reflect the community’s vision for our students. (reading, math, and college and career readiness). The 目标 are about student outcomes – what we want the students to know and be able to do.

The 护栏 adopted by the SPS School Board monitor what adults are doing to promote or hinder the success of the goals for our students. These are the guiding principles in place to describe behaviors we will not allow as we protect and encourage student safety, 归属感, 和成就.

通过 monitoring our progress 朝着这些目标前进, we will ensure our students and families develop trust and confidence in the district and schools. We will safeguard each students’ ability to foster a strong sense of 归属感 and community in school, develop positive identities affirming their cultural and family heritage, and receive relevant and responsive learning experiences to cultivate their unique gifts and talents. Students will develop personal self-efficacy, 的声音, and leadership in school and the community, increasing academic achievement.

Guardrail 1: Engagement

The superintendent will not allow school and district initiatives to go forth without engaging students of color furthest from educational justice and their families, following stakeholder engagement principles that are utilizing current adopted best practices.

Guardrail 2: Operations

The superintendent will not allow operational systems to deliver unreliable service.

Guardrail 3: Districtwide Vision and Anti-racism

The superintendent will not allow adult behaviors in central office, 学校建筑, or classrooms that are misaligned with districtwide vision, 值, and anti-racism initiatives.

Guardrail 4: Discipline

The superintendent will not allow the use of disciplinary actions as a substitute for culturally responsive behavioral and social emotional supports for students, with and without disabilities

Guardrail 5: Safe and Welcoming

The superintendent will not allow any district department, 学校建筑, or classrooms to provide unwelcoming environments.
